We write to keep you informed of the situation regarding the tournament BVAW Barcelona 2011.
There is currently a small but real hope that they give us permission to hold the event at the scheduled dates but in a much smaller space with respect to which we are use to have.
This is due to several factors:
1- Icaria beach has suffered during the winter ,as many of you know, winds and tides and one part (the one closest to the sea, where normally we build the third line of courts) is unusable and it is not feasible as previous years, that City Council sent bulldozers to fix it.
2- The area near the boardwalk access, which was historically the area with less sand of the beach, but still in some places allowed us the chance to set up some courts, this year is impossible to use because they have taken sand from there to refill below where it was an important hollow, so there is much less sand than before and there are many stones that would jeopardize the physical integrity of the participants
3- Finally, another factor is that in this time of year, beach bars have a much broader concession of spaces for their exploitation by chairs and umbrellas, which further narrows the area in which we can set up courts.
Still, We think the great expectations for this tournament makes us to consider the possibility of doing it also with a significantly lower number of playing courts.
This translated to the competition system, of course mean that we must adapt to the physical possibilities reducing the number of games each team would play. In short, the only solution is to eliminate one of the 2 round robin phases we play normally, so play just 1 round robin phase and then proceed directly to the single elimination phase.
Thus We think we can maintain the initial idea of making the tournament 2x2 mixed on Friday September 2, and the 2x2 female and 2x2 male on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September.
The disadvantages of this system compared to our usual competition system is obviously that each team would play a minimum of 3 games instead of 6 and we could not do the natural division into categories Gold and Silver according to the results from the first round robin phase.
The first disadvantage We think is unfortunately irremediable. The second however, we can solve it directly by the registration of teams in the GOLD or SILVER category according to your own criteria, as happens in other tournaments.
Perhaps we will have to close the registration for the tournament at one point when we reach the maximum number of teams that allow this competition system and the number of courts that we will finally have.
Although still not sure, We hope to confirm you as soon as possible the grant of permission in the above detailed conditions, otherwise we will look for other solutions. Meanwhile, We would like to know your opinion.

Os escribo para manteneros informados de la situación respecto a la etapa BVAW Barcelona 2011.
En estos momentos hay una pequeña pero real esperanza de que nos den una autorización para realizar el evento en esas fechas pero en un espacio mucho más reducido respecto al que estamos acostumbrados.
Esto se debe a varios factores:
1- La playa de Icaria a sufrido como muchos sabéis durante el invierno los azotes de los vientos y mareas y una parte (la más próxima al mar, donde normalmente montábamos la tercera línea de campos) está inutilizable y no es factible que como años anteriores el Ayuntamiento envíe palas mecánicas para arreglarlo.
2- La zona próxima a la rambla de acceso, que históricamente era el área con menos arena de la playa, pero que aún así en ciertos lugares nos permitía la posibilidad de montar algunos campos, este año es imposible de usar debido a que han cogido arena de allí para emparejar debajo donde se había formado una hondonada importante, por lo que queda mucho menos arena aún y hay muchas piedras que harían peligrar la integridad física de los participantes
3- Finalmente, otro factor es que en esta época del año, los bares de la playa tienen una concesión mucho más amplia de espacios destinados a su explotación por medio de tumbonas y parasoles, lo cual acota aún más la zona en la cual podemos montar campos.
Así y todo, creo que la gran expectativa por este torneo hace que nos planteemos la posibilidad de hacerlo igualmente con un número significativamente menor de campos de juego.
Esto, traducido al sistema de competición, significaría por supuesto que debemos adaptarnos a las posibilidades físicas reduciendo el número de partidos que cada equipo jugaría. En definitiva, la única solución es eliminar una fase de grupos, o sea jugar una sola fase de grupos todos contra todos y pasar luego a la fase de eliminación directa.
De esta manera creo que podemos mantener la idea inicial de realizar el torneo 2x2 mixto el viernes 2 de Septiembre y los 2x2 femenino y 2x2 masculino el sábado 3 y domingo 4 de Septiembre.
Las desventajas de este sistema respecto a nuestro sistema de competición usual es obviamente que cada equipo jugaría un mínimo de 3 partidos en lugar de 6 y que no podríamos hacer la división natural en categorías ORO y PLATA según los resultados de la primera ronda de grupos.
La primera desventaja lamentablemente creo que es insubsanable. La segunda sin embargo, podemos solucionarla realizando la inscripción directamente en categoría ORO ó PLATA según vuestro propio criterio, como se suele hacer en otros torneos.
Aunque aún no es seguro, espero poder confirmar en breve la concesión del permiso en las condiciones detalladas, en caso contrario seguiremos buscando otras soluciones. Mientras tanto, me gustaría conocer vuestra opinión.
Estamos haciendo lo imposible por brindaros el mejor evento que esté a nuestro alcance, espero sepáis entender la situación y disculparnos por cualquier inconveniente que podamos causar.

Scrivo per informarvi della situazione relativa al torneo BVAW Barcellona 2011.
C’è ne attualmente una piccola ma reale speranza che ci danno il permesso di tenere l'evento nelle date programmate, ma in uno spazio molto più piccolo rispetto a quale siamo abituati.
Ciò è dovuto a diversi fattori:
4- La spiaggia Icaria ha sofferto, come molti di voi sapete, le frustate dei venti e maree invernali e una parte (quella più vicina al mare, dove normalmente montiamo la terza linea di campi) è inutilizzabile e non è possibile, come negli anni precedenti che il Comune possa inviare ruspe per sistemarlo.
5- L'area vicina alla passerella di accesso, che è stata storicamente la zona con meno sabbia dalla spiaggia, ma ancora in alcuni luoghi ci ha dato la possibilità di montare alcuni campi, quest'anno è impossibile da usare perché hanno preso sabbia da lì per sistemare sotto dove si era formato un vuoto importante, quindi c'è ancora molto meno sabbia e ci sono molte pietre che metterebbero in pericolo l'integrità fisica dei partecipanti
6- Infine, un altro fattore è che in questo periodo dell'anno, i bar sulla spiaggia hanno una concessione molto più ampia di spazi per il loro sfruttamento da lettini e ombrelloni, che ci restringe ancora di piú l'area in cui si può montare campi.
Comunque, penso che le grandi aspettative per questo torneo ci fa considerare la possibilità di farlo con un numero significativamente inferiore di campi da gioco.
Ciò, tradotto al sistema di competizione, significa che questo si deve adattare alle possibilità fisiche che abbiamo, riducendo il numero di partite che ogni squadra dovrebbe giocare. In breve, l'unica soluzione è quella di eliminare una fase a gironi, quindi giocare una unica fase di girone alla italiana tutti contro tutti e poi procedere alla fase a eliminazione diretta.
Così credo che possiamo mantenere l'idea iniziale di fare il torneo 2x2 misto il Venerdì 2 Settembre, e i 2x2 femminile e 2x2 maschile il Sabato 3 e Domenica 4 Settembre.
Gli svantaggi di questo sistema rispetto al nostro normale sistema di competizione è ovviamente che ogni squadra giocherebbe un minimo di 3 partite invece di 6 e non possiamo fare la naturale divisione in categorie Oro e Argento in base ai risultati dalla prima fase di gruppi.
Il primo inconveniente credo che purtroppo è irrimediabile. Il secondo invece, siamo in grado di risolvere con la registrazione delle squadre direttamente nelle categorie ORO o ARGENTO secondo i vostri criteri, come fanno in altri tornei.
Forse dovremmo anche chiudere l'iscrizione al torneo ad un certo punto quando raggiungiamo il numero massimo di squadre che permettono questo sistema di competizione e il numero di campi che finalmente avvremo.
Anche se ancora non è sicuro, spero poter confermare a breve la concessione del permesso nelle condizioni sopra dettagliate, altrimenti saremo alla ricerca di altre soluzioni. Nel frattempo, mi piacerebbe conoscere la vostra opinione.
Stiamo facendo tutto il possibile per offrirvi il miglior evento dentro delle nostre possibilità, spero potete capire la situazione e ci scusiamo per gli eventuali disagi che può causare.
